About Simeon: Born into a family of yachting fanatics, his first sailing experience came when he was just a few months old during a family cruise on one of the many estuaries in the south of the Netherlands. After winning a coastal race on the family’s 36-foot yacht at the age of five, Simeon became hooked on racing and soon after started competing in the Optimist dinghy class. Taking charge of his first Volvo Ocean Race crew as skipper fulfils one of Simeon’s lifetime dreams and as a fierce patriot to be racing for the Netherlands makes the experience all the more satisfying.
